2025 September 25 | journalI have been bouncing on and off this post for... let's call it a while. Pretty soon after getting the site going at all, I knew I wanted to make a post that would announce my commitment to it. You know, something nice to link in a Discord. But the actual content of that post never quite settled in my brain.
I could make it about myself, like the rest of the site is. But that's redundant not just because of that, but also this would probably be the post I send people to say "if you want to hear me ramble go here." So, you know, they probably know who I am. An interesting idea was to share appreciation for other people's blogs. Of course, then I got swept up in a storm of worries about social consequences. "What if I change my opinions and someone notices" type of thoughts that are nowhere near a big enough deal to care about, but will fester in my mind as I try to type anything out.
And so the indecisiveness continued... and then BlueSky moderation kept fucking up.
I don't want to single out BlueSky. As far as social media goes, it's quite nice. But that means when they're fucking up consistently, it's a pretty bad sign. Right away, I took a step and ripped linktree out of all my bios and put a cobbled-together page on this site in them instead.
So, let's keep on taking steps, shall we?
If you are someone who is interested in "following me," then this site is your best bet. That doesn't mean it serves the same purpose of social media. Shitposts about being aromantic are easier to make when I can use someone else's audio via TikTok or hit the reblog button on Tumblr. But if I find myself writing 300 words (hey guess how long this post is at this point) about something, it's more likely to be here than anywhere else.
I'm not making promises past that. Certainly no plans for a consistent posting schedule or anything like that. And while I am looking into specific changes, never expect the site to be anything beyond whatever it is in the moment. This website is for me, and part of that is escaping a lot of stuff I dislike about the rest of the web.
So, you want to follow the blog?
Yeah, it's probably important to tell you how to do that. You could just save the website and check it whenever. But especially with irregular posting, that's gonna be a pain on your end.
Luckily, there's an automated solution: the RSS feed. I have this linked on the 'Home' page, but here's another link, just for you!
On its own, that link is basically the same as saving the website. But, you can plug it into an RSS feed reader and that will tell you whenever there's an update, and it will even tell you what the new posts are.
Which RSS feeder do I recommend? ... ... uhhh
My browser of choice is Vivaldi and that has a built-in feed reader. But I don't expect anyone to change browsers just for a reader. The most popular one I see others recommend is Inoreader but I must warn you that they proudly use generative AI. There are plenty of options out there, and if you find one you really like, please feel free to reach out to me so I can give it a look and maybe plug it here. My one piece of advice: don't pay for a reader. RSS feeds are how podcasts work. You don't have to pay $8 a month for 3 blog updates.
Also, if you end up making your site or already have one - tell me! I am always excited to see more personal sites, especially if I know the person behind them. And while I don't currently have a big list of blogs I follow posted, it's still something I'm considering. You know, so I can have a button wall, among all the actually useful reasons.
